Jenny's Light Kids Triathlon Series, the Menlo Park Kids Triathlon, and the Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon. The events are open to children ages 5 through 14. The triathlons are offered in multiple distances based on the age group of the competitor.
These races are a great way to introduce the sport of triathlon to kids. For those kids already familiar with triathlons, these events provide a fun, safe environment to race.
Like adult triathlons, these events consist of three main events: Swimming, Cycling, and Running (in that order). Kids start the race with the swimming leg of the event. From the swim, they'll run to the transition area put on their helmets and shoes (and anything else they need). They'll then mount their bikes head out to the bike course. When the kids are done with the bike section, they'll head back to transition to put their bike away, then start the run. The finish of the race is at the end of the run course.
REGISTRATION AND PACKET PICK-UP FORMAT:
When you arrive at the School there will be an area where registration and packet pick-up is located. There will be marked tables under the tents (with volunteers to help guide you). You will need to visit many of these tables to ensure you are properly registered and ready to race! A parent or a legal guardian must be present during athlete check-in to sign waivers.
Distances for the Kids Triathlon will vary, depending on the age of participants:
5-6 years old - 50 yard swim, 1.5 mile bike (2 laps), .6 mile run (1 lap).
7-8 years old - 100 yard swim, 2.25 mile bike (3 laps), .6 mile run(1 lap).
9-11 years old – 150 yard swim, 3.75 mile bike (5 laps), 1 mile run (2 laps).
12-14 years old – 200 yard swim, 4.5 miles (6 laps), 1.7 mile run (4 laps).
