The Start and Finish for the ride will occur in Jack London Square.
The goal of the Oakland Gran Fondo is to inject health and wellness into the community with an incredible bike event for all ages and to raise funds for Bike East Bay. The beautiful backdrop of Jack London Square is the perfect setting for this fall event to keep the bike community motivated to stay fit and healthy throughout the year. "It's so exciting to see a major biking event kick off in Oakland," says Renee Rivera, Executive Director of Bike East Bay. "We're looking forward to an event that brings people of all riding levels out to enjoy the beauty of the East Bay."
The Oakland Gran Fondo has been designed with 3 enjoyable East Bay routes that will cater to 3 different types of cyclists and allow for everyone including families to join in this community event that is benefiting Bike East Bay.
The expo will consist of what makes Oakland and Jack London Square special, from the waterfront views, food & beverage, art, diversity, and our great charities. The expo will be open to the public and will be a 2-day festival of what makes cycling special in the bay area. Join us for a great expo, a great ride, and our community of bike enthusiasts and family.

The Oakland Gran Fondo will be held on open roads through downtown and into the hill of Oakland. The beginning of the ride will travel by Lake Merritt and up Park St. with a rolling closure for all cyclists on the 28, 55 and 100 mile rides. Once cyclists cross over HWY 13 on Joaquin Miller Rd we ask that all stay to the right of the road and use the Centerline rule, which means by law you must stay on the right hand side of the road. We will have CHP, Sheriff's Office managing traffic at major intersections along with motor escorts to help with vehicle flow.
All routes will be fully supported with escorts and police personnel that will make your ride safe and enjoyable. We have rolling closures through downtown Oakland and motor escorts that will assist on the remainder of each route assisting with traffic control/awareness.
Mini Fondo – 13.5 Mile Ride
Unfortunately based on several factors that are out of our control we had to change the route for the Mini Fondo. This was based on the demolition of the old Bay Bridge that is schedule to occur on one of the weekends in the end of October. Another factor is that the construction crews are not exactly sure when the east bay expansion will be complete and connect to the observation deck. Our plan for riding on the bridge and across to the observation will be delayed until the 2017 Oakland Gran Fondo.
The New Mini Fondo route offers a unique family friendly route up and around Lake Merritt and will be part of our closure for the other Fondo rides, then you will head out into the Port of Oakland with views of the Bay Bridge and a fully supported stop that will occur in the beautiful Middle Harbor Shoreline Park. You will enjoy views of the Lake Merritt, Port of Oakland, New Bay Bridge, SF Bay from the Port of Oakland on this easy ride for the family to enjoy. This ride will not be timed and will include 1 fully supported stop with baked treats and beverages for the whole family.
